Purpose: To increase the healthcare provider’s knowledge in the identification, management, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) during pregnancy. By integrating current evidence-based guidelines, clinicians will be better equipped to optimize maternal and neonatal outcomes through early detection, appropriate treatment, and effective counseling strategies

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, and pathophysiologic effects of common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) during pregnancy.
  • Identify appropriate evidence-based screening and diagnostic strategies for STIs during pregnancy in accordance with current clinical guidelines.
  • Formulate safe and effective pharmacological treatment regimens for common STIs in pregnancy.
  • Develop effective counseling strategies for pregnant patients and their partners to support STI prevention, risk reduction, and improved maternal and neonatal outcomes.
