Purpose: To review current monitoring, immunization, and screening recommendations in patients with T2DM, considerations when treating T2DM in the presence of comorbid conditions, and appropriate non-pharmacologic approaches to optimize outcomes in T2DM.

  • Outline the non-pharmacologic elements of a successful glucose-lowering regimen.
  • Formulate an individualized treatment plan for an adult patient with T2DM and comorbid conditions.
  • Identify glucose-lowering medications with a therapeutic benefit for comorbid conditions.
  • Discuss the recommended components of a comprehensive medical evaluation in a patient with T2DM.
