Our Mission

We are committed to developing collaborative relationships with prescribers and providing current evidence-based drug information to improve prescribing.

Background

In August 2019, the State of Illinois passed Public Act 101-0278, requiring the establishment of an evidence-based, non-commercial education program for Medicaid prescribers consisting of web-based curriculum and academic educator outreach. As a result of this legislation, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services is partnering with the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy to provide drug information and academic detailing services through Illinois ADVANCE.

What does Illinois ADVANCE stand for?

Academic Detailing Visits And New Evidence CEnter. Illinois ADVANCE is the Academic Detailing and Drug Information Center of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy.

Who is Illinois ADVANCE?

Illinois ADVANCE is composed of clinical pharmacists from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).  We provide academic detailing services to Illinois Medicaid prescribers via one-on-one meetings.  Our pharmacists are trained to provide tailored, unbiased, up-to-date drug information to assist clinicians in making evidence-based prescribing decisions for their patients.

What is Academic Detailing? Heading link

Academic detailing is a one-on-one healthcare provider outreach program. It provides accurate, non-commercial, and up-to-date drug information. It is a unique interactive program tailored for each healthcare provider through customized and focused discussions. The AD visit lasts about 15-20 minutes and provides 0.5 hours of free continuing education. Our pharmacists are trained to provide tailored, unbiased, up-to-date drug information to assist clinicians in making evidence-based prescribing decisions for their patients.

How can this program benefit you?

Prescribers and pharmacists are faced with time constraints and challenges to stay current with continually evolving research and clinical evidence. This program provides an unbiased and accurate source of current evidence-based drug information.

Additional Education

Illinois ADVANCE also provides a web-based curriculum. Module content will be reviewed and updated on an annual or as-needed basis. The continuing educational modules will also provide prescribing physicians with continuing medical education credit.
