Illinois ADVANCE (Academic Detailing Visits And New evidence CEnter) is the premier academic detailing program in Illinois.

Academic detailing is an interactive, evidence-based education approach designed for busy clinicians like you. In just 20 minutes, you can gain expert insights and practical tools to enhance patient care—without disrupting your day. We meet you where it’s most convenient: in your office, a coffee shop, or virtually from anywhere with a connection. No long training sessions, no overwhelming data—just a balanced, time-efficient conversation that provides clarity and ease in your clinical decisions.

Mission and Background

The impact of academic detailing is real. Before an academic detailing visit, clinicians may face challenges in implementing key evidence-based strategies. Afterward, they are better equipped with the knowledge and tools to prescribe lower opioid doses, decrease unnecessary opioid use, and initiate SMART therapy for asthma. Our detailing sessions focus on actionable, practical changes that lead to measurable improvements in patient outcomes—all while reducing cognitive load and mental burden for clinicians.

Spotlights

The team of clinical pharmacists at Illinois ADVANCE is specially trained in academic detailing by NaRCAD, ensuring a comfortable, personalized, and impactful conversation. We tailor each session to your specific challenges, barriers, and work dynamic, providing key messages that help optimize patient care. As specialists in education for the state of Illinois, we stay updated on public health trends and patient needs statewide.

But we go beyond education. Think of us as your personal concierge consultants—researching drug information, patient resources, and community tools so you don’t have to. We equip you with the means to empower patients, improve communication, and navigate difficult conversations with confidence.

Academic Detailers/Disclosures

Illinois ADVANCE is backed by the University of Illinois Chicago Retzky College of Pharmacy, granting us access to premier resources, including the Drug Information Group and partnerships with state organizations. We collaborate with leading health-focused groups such as MATEC and IPHCA, ensuring we provide the most current, best evidence guidance. Our robust team is committed to delivering the highest quality support for clinicians across Illinois.

Resources

Academic detailing is an effective way for individual clinicians to hone clinical knowledge, decrease mental burden, and improve patient outcomes. This approach can have an even bigger impact when applied to teams – whether in a clinic, health-system, or new initiative.

Imagine the value of collective confidence gained in clinical approaches – whether navigating cardiorenal outcomes in diabetes, optimizing pain management strategies, or prescribing HIV PrEP with ease. Armed with practical knowledge and support tools, you and your team can provide a consistent message, empowering patients to take an active role in their care and achieve better health outcomes.

Our program has been used to onboard, provide clinical updates, train residents, enhance opioid stewardship, expand prescribing of HIV PrEP, and so much more.

ILA

I want to express my appreciation to you and the University of Illinois Chicago for offering such excellent academic detailing visits. Your topics are intriguing, your brochures are excellent references/resources for my practice, AND you make learning fun and exciting. I also like the length of a 30 minutes session. Your diabetes education has been a favorite! Your enthusiasm for your topics is commendable. Thanks to you and the team at University of Illinois!
